Let God be True

New Zealand, along with countries around the world, has legalized sins that are contrary to God’s Word. Paul listed some of these sins in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 and in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. Reading through these lists, human nature cringes at some while shrugging off others. However, as God looks upon these sins, He sees them as any other sin in His Law.

It is man and not God who has categorized sin. For example, we justify lying without conscience as a “little white lie” or we can perjure ourselves in a court of law. While one of these sins is excused, the other is not. Yet, no matter how “little” or how “big” man classifies it, all sin is equally a serious matter with God. When it comes to a “little white lie,” here is what God equates it with:

the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
(Revelation 21:8)

As Christians, we are to obey the laws of man if we want to be blessed by God with a quiet and peaceable life (1 Timothy 2:1-3). We are also to obey God’s Law to be blessed with length of days, and long life, and peace (Proverbs 3:1-2). When man’s law clashes with God’s Law, we are to let God be true, but every man a liar and obey God rather than men (Romans 3:4, Acts 5:29). In doing so, we are in no way putting ourselves above man’s law. In reality we are condemning ourselves under man’s law. This is illustrated in the Bible wherever God’s man disobeyed man’s law:
  • Jesus disobeyed man’s law and was crucified
  • Stephen disobeyed man’s law and was stoned to death
  • Apostles disobeyed man’s law and were beaten and imprisoned and killed
By disobeying man’s law, each of these men knowingly condemned themselves by the same laws of man that they disobeyed. The ultimate disobedience to man’s law will be seen in the Tribulation where those who refuse the Mark of the Beast will do so knowing the condemnation is death under man’s law but eternal life under God’s Law.

As we get closer to the Rapture, before the Tribulation, man’s law will get worse and worse (2 Timothy 3:12-15). We will be faced with times where we have to take a firm stand against man’s law. Why? When it comes to sin, we are not to indulge in it simply because man’s law has excused it. We are never to agree with sins forced upon us by man’s law. We are to always obey God’s Law of man’s!

With this said, let God be true, but every man a liar and obey God rather than men as we stand firmly against the legalization of sins in New Zealand.
