“The serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die” (Genesis 3:4)
Unfortunately, the deception of many people drives them to God’s Word only to justify themselves and prove their pretext. By this, they become Satan’s ministers of false righteousness (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). They coerce the Bible to say what they want it to say, not allowing God to say exactly what He means, refusing to yield to the simple truths of God.
Much doctrinal error is infiltrating our churches today by Bible quoters, as it did when the Bible was being penned in the 1st century (2 Corinthians 2:17). We’re warned to not be deceived. Just because someone can quote the Bible doesn’t mean that they know the Bible. Our protection from their deception is to be in the Word of God, heed the Word of God, continually grow in the Word of God, by the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. (2 Peter Folger 3:15-18)
