The Reason for the Season

We have all heard the phrase “Jesus is the Reason for the Season.” The vivid truth behind this is that there is no other reason for Christmas. The name of the season itself speaks clearly of Christ, CHRISTmas. The world knows this, and fights adamantly against manger scenes depicting Baby Jesus in public places, and against carols that speak the name of our blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We all know the Story, how Jesus was born in a manger in Bethlehem, and that He was “Born to Die upon Calvary.” That night was a night of miracles; the Son of God, virgin-born in a manger, announced by an angelic hosts from Heaven with the message of Good News. Everything about the Manger, Messenger and Message point solely to Jesus Christ as The Reason for the Season.

  • The Manger – The earthly crib for the Son of God. The manger shows His initial rejection by mankind as “there was no room for them in the inn.” The manger reveals Man’s redemption as they “wrapped him in swaddling clothes,” literally, in His burial clothes. (Luke 2:7)
  • The Messengers – Angels sent from Heaven to announce the Good News of Jesus’ Birth to all the world. They heralded this news first to lowly and unworthy shepherds, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” The shepherds responded, “Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.” The shepherds left as the earthly messengers as they “made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.” (Luke 2:11,15,17)
  • The Message – Good News from Heaven came to the whole world. The message is personal, “For unto YOU is born … a Saviour.” The angelic messengers praised God, Jesus Christ, just like they did when He created the world, singing, “Glory to God in the highest.” The message also brings peace to all who accept the Good News of Jesus Christ, “on earth peace, good will toward men.” (Luke 2:11,14)
The only 2 accounts of Christmas in the Bible show us that Jesus came for every walk of life to receive the peace that He offers to all mankind. In Luke, we see the lowliest, bottom of the socioeconomic scale, come to offer all they had, themselves a vessel to take the Christmas story out to the whole world. In Matthew, we see the wealthiest, the upper class of society, come to offer all they had, their riches as gold, frankincense and myrrh. Each group came in great humility, laying aside who they were, and lifting up praise and worship to Jesus, THE KING OF KINGS.

This year let’s celebrate Christmas with great fanfare, with all our hearts and the greatest divine joy and worship.
