Shall Not Inherit The Kingdom of God

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

Religion has warped what it means to inherit the kingdom of God. Many perceive it is about what we do in our body to obtain eternal life, and Paul even lists many sins of the body to those he was teaching. This perception convinces many that it is all about good works for eternal life, or the best balance between good and bad works when they stand before God. This is a false assumption because Ephesians 2:8-9 quells any good work required for obtaining salvation.

In 1 Corinthians 6, Paul is speaking of the unsaved, while teaching a saved group in Corinth. He is reminding them concerning their wretchedness that “such were some of you.” Twice Paul says some group will not inherit the kingdom of God. As righteous and godly as each group may be in their bodies, neither the saved nor the unsaved have what is needed in their bodies to enter into the eternal presence of God.

Our bodies, in all goodness and/or badness, can never leave this earth to enter into Heaven. The born again believer will receive a glorified, sinless, perfect body at the Rapture. It is this glorified body that enables the saved person to inherit the kingdom of God (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Philippians 3:20-21). The reason for a glorified body is because after salvation we still live in the same sinful and corrupt flesh as seen in the sins Paul mentions, and God said that sin cannot enter the kingdom of God (Revelation 21:27). So, to inherit the kingdom of God has nothing to do with the bodies we currently live in, but rather the heart and soul that were purchased by God in our salvation (Ephesians 1:7-14). Only the saved, born again believer will receive the necessary glorified body (Philippians 3:20-21) to accommodate the soul to be able to enter into the kingdom of God.
