Himself a Lamb

I forget who first pointed this one out, but it has blessed me ever since! Genesis 22:7 tells us that “God will provide HIMSELF a lamb.” Could God have prophesied any clearer that He, HIMSELF, would become the Lamb of God! “HIMSELF” clearly points to Jesus Christ, of whom John said, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).

To those who deny that Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, is God HIMSELF, 1 John 4:1-3 calls them “false prophets” and “antichrists.” These verses teach that we cannot be born again and deny Jesus is God HIMSELF. The same writer said in John 8:24, in one of my favorite verses and chapters when witnessing to a Jehovah’s Witness, “if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.” To die in your sins means you cannot go to Heaven, because God said that no sin can enter into His Kingdom (Revelation 21:27).

Throughout the New Testament, we see God providing HIMSELF as Man’s eternal redemption:

  • Jesus Christ HIMSELF being the chief corner stone” (Ephesians 2:20)
  • Jesus “humbled HIMSELF, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:8)
  • Jesus “gave HIMSELF for me” (Galatians 2:20)
  • Jesus “gave HIMSELF for our sins” (Galatians 1:4)
  • Jesus “gave HIMSELF a ransom for all” (1 Timothy 2:6)
  • Jesus “gave HIMSELF for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity” (Titus 2:14)
  • Jesus “HIMSELF likewise took part of the same [flesh and blood]; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil” (Hebrews 2:14)
  • Jesus “offered up HIMSELF” (Hebrews 7:25-28)
  • Jesus “put away sin by the sacrifice of HIMSELF” (Hebrews 9:24-26)
  • Jesus “by HIMSELF purged our sins” (Hebrews 1:1-3)

What a great day it will be when we meet Jesus, God HIMSELF in His Kingdom, where “God HIMSELF shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:3-4)

Have you put your faith and trust in Jesus HIMSELF for your eternal salvation? Is Jesus your personal Savior? If not, speak with someone at church today who can show you the way to eternal life.
