The Promise Of Life

Most people are desperately attempting to live, while missing the true meaning of life. They seek  meaning in their possessions, through their pleasures and by their own power. Their wheels spin out of control with no direction or destiny because they deny the key ingredient, God, and rely wholly on their own selves. Sadly, when they attain any measure of “things” they are still empty, full of void and unfulfilled. This process is called Humanism, which has overtaken society and the church.

Read 2 Timothy 1:1-2 — Paul teaches that the meaning of life is “according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus.” Paul gives Timothy three pieces to the equation that are only found in Christ: “grace, mercy, and peace.”

We have the promise of GRACE for every trial (2 Corinthians 12:9) — It begins with saving grace (Ephesians 2:8-9), continues through living grace (2 Corinthians 4:8-19), and culminates with dying grace (Psalm 23:4). This is exemplified in Stephen as he saw in his last breath the very grace of God standing at the right hand of the father (Acts 7:55-56).

We have the promise of MERCY for every failure (Psalm 23:6) — Ninety-nine times in Psalms, the word “mercy” is alongside some form of the word “forever.” We fail God miserably, yet His mercies are promised to be with us forever (Lamentations 3:22-23). God’s love and mercy is far greater than our sin; His forgiveness and faithfulness is there for us forevermore (1 John 1:9).|

We have the promise of PEACE for life’s journey — Jesus brought us His peace at His birth (Luke 2:14), taught us His peace through His life (John 16:33), and left us His peace at His death (John 14:27). Isaiah 26:3 speaks of this perfect peace that God offers to those who keep their minds upon Him throughout life. Focusing on this world with all its problems will rob our peace until we turn our eyes back to Christ and know that all is well in and through Him (Philippians 4:7).

The meaning of life for a believer is found only in Christ, living in daily gratitude to the One who gave us eternal life. When we believed on Christ, we were given both the meaning of life and the promise of life. Let’s lay hold on this promise in 2026, a promise that offers believers God’s grace, mercy and peace in this present world.
