Count Your Many Blessings

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 teaches, “though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.” This is important in understanding that blessings are not a physical guarantee for the outward man but spiritual for the inward man. As we age, if this is not put in heavenly perspective, we can easily be deceived that we are not blessed of God because our outward man is rapidly decaying before our eyes. Though blessings are not guaranteed in this life, and though Heaven will be a wonderfully blessed place, Jesus wants our outward man to have an abundant life today in Him (John 10:10).

Many times, our eyes are upon this world with all its disappointments, and we fail to realize just how physically blessed we really are, though we deserve none of it. We are so undeserving, especially as God has not rewarded us according to our sins and iniquities (Psalm 103:10-13). It’s when we get our eyes off the physical outward man and onto the spiritual inward man that we begin to see just how blessed we are in this life (Ephesians 1:3).

Much of our blessings today, with the outward man, depends upon us and our faithfulness to God and His work. I want us to see some of these spiritual blessings of the inward man that depends upon our faith in God through Jesus Christ:

  • Blessed with incomprehensible love (Ephesians 3:19)
  • Blessed with inheritance that cannot defile (1 Peter 1:3-4)
  • Blessed with peace that cannot be understood (Philippians 4:7)
  • Blessed with joy that is unspeakable (1 Peter 1:8)
  • Blessed with light that can never darken (1 John 1:5-9)
  • Blessed with grace that is always sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9)
  • Blessed with strength made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9)
  • Blessed with eternal life in Heaven above (John 10:28)

Ofttimes in this life, as we enter 2026, for both the outward man and the inward man, lets:

Count your blessings, name them one by one
Count your blessings, see what God hath done
Count your blessings, name them one by one
Count your many blessings, see what God hath done
