A Mother’s Relentless Love

Motherhood is one of the most unthankful, full-time jobs in the world. As unthankful as it may seem at times, godly mothers persist with an uncanny, instinctive steadfastness. WHY?

God created woman with an awesome RELENTLESS LOVE and instinct to be a GODLY MOTHER! This relentlessness is commended by Jesus as He tells one unnamed mother in His Word, “O woman, great is thy faith” (Matthew 15:21-28). This mother’s relentless love was all about her little girl.

This mother had great shame in her name as she came before the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, God Almighty himself. She was as a woman of Canaan, from Tyre and Sidon, known for paganism. She was also a Greek, a Syrophenician in Mark 7:26. To the Jew, as seen here in Matthew 15, Gentiles were considered shameful, filthy dogs, worthy of only the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.

With her child as her RELENTLESS LOVE, she could boldly reach beyond her shame to the One who, just a few chapters earlier in Matthew, said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30).

With her child as her RELENTLESS LOVE, she put aside her paganism, came to Jesus and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

  • By worshipping Jesus, she acknowledged He was God
  • By calling Him Lord, she acknowledged He could answer her great need
  • By pleading “help me,” she acknowledged she could not manage her life without God, confessing that she needed Him personally

All that this unnamed mother acknowledged is exactly what man needs today to find eternal help from Heaven above, by the RELENTLESS LOVE of Jesus.

  • Jesus is God Almighty
  • Jesus is the only One who can help our great eternal need
  • Jesus needs to be our personal Savior

With her child as her RELENTLESS LOVE, this woman pursued her child’s only hope, our Lord Jesus Christ. Though her name is never revealed, her faith is exactly what ours is when we come to Jesus for salvation, GREAT FAITH!

Is Jesus your personal Savior? If not, speak with someone today who can show you how to have GREAT FAITH in Christ.
