From the National Institute of Health on Aging: “Sometimes, food and beverage packaging includes terms that may try to convince the consumer the food is healthy. … Multigrain. This sounds healthy but only means that a product contains more than one type of grain. Unless the product is marked as whole grain, it is possible the grains are all refined grains, which have likely lost important nutrients during processing.”
We’ve all paused at length, scratching our heads to absorb food labels. Why? We know that manufacturers use ingredients we cannot pronounce, but the ones we do understand are too often used in deception. “Multigrain”, “wholewheat” and “wholegrain” are perfect examples. While we are looking for the healthiest option in our price range, they are using these terms in ways to convince us their product fits our bill. To weed through this jungle of terminology, for the most part we just need time and maybe a dictionary.
How different is religions’ ingredient lists? Simple terms being twisted with the sole intent of drawing believers away from the truth. For example, the Devil as the Great Deceiver convinced the world they were created from a Big Bang that instigated Evolution. A Bible believer doesn’t accept this theory. So, the Deceiver brings it into the church by changing terminology to Theistic Evolution. This is the same Theory of Evolution, just spiritualized by replacing the Big Bang segment with God.
There are many intentionally misused theological terms, like food ingredient lists. Nonetheless, we can weed through and spot deceptions if we “Study to shew thyself approved unto God” (2 Timothy 2:15). So, let’s not accept Satan’s spiritually “refined grains, which have likely lost important nutrients during processing.” If we don’t understand a biblical term, simply ask our pastor.
